Our Purpose at TPP

To provide an environment of quiet solitude where those who come can seek God and be molded into the vessel "The Potter" desires (Jeremiah 18:1-4), to provide a place of respite for full-time pastors and missionaries who need rest and renewal, and to serve other Kingdom building leaders from Churches, para-church and humanitarian organizations.

Our History

In 2006, Don and Shannon Schaupp bought a five acre piece of this property and built a pavilion as a safe place for their family and visiting friends from church. They soon had thoughts of building a woodshop and a house, but with each plan, their prayer and heart’s desire remained, “above all, Lord, use us in the building of Your Kingdom for the rest of our days.”

What’s remarkable about this place, now around 22 acres, is not what is seen, but the molding of lives. God is faithful to meet with each soul who earnestly desires and takes time to meet with Him.

The Potter’s Place is simply a quiet, safe place where people are welcome to spend time alone with God; where one can find sanctuary in the woods, a little cabin, or a secluded walking path for solitude and worship.

Though the Schaupps had no master plan, the handprints of the Master planner are evident everywhere in the amazing stories and the continual unfolding of what is now known as The Potter’s Place.

“My pastors are priceless,” the Lord whispered one day. So, to extend God’s love and their deep appreciation, Don and Shannon opened a guest house to full time pastors, missionaries and their spouses as a place to spend some days of rest and renewal. Today, three small cottages are open for this purpose. This invitation is extended prayerfully, in hopes that each guest will experience to the fullest this God-given gift of Sabbath rest.

In 2017, the ministry was incorporated as a 501(c) 3 non-profit ministry under the name of Psalm 91 at The Potter’s Place. It is now led by a board of directors who seek to continue the warm and welcoming ministry begun by the Schaupps.

All services here are provided free of charge. The ministry is supported by the generous contributions of those who believe in and have benefited from its services. Your support is deeply appreciated!

Our Founders

Don and Shannon Schaupp

Don grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York and spent ten years working in the resort hotels located there. Next came 22 years in the US Air Force followed by 21 years as a professor at Southern Wesleyan University. Don’s giftings abound in hospitality, a love for others, and a passion for others to know and experience the fullness of God and His boundless Love.

Shannon grew up in San Antonio, Texas under the shadow of a WWII fighter ace - Tex Hill and a highly successful real estate broker - Mazie Hill. Shannon’s highest calling has been and is to raise a family to know and be devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and point others to Him. Along the way her giftings were evident in art, evangelism, Bible teaching, and mentoring.

The Father’s greatest gift to Don and Shannon is, without saying, salvation and eternal life, but they believe next in line has been, and is, the gift of teachability. They continually hunger to know God better and "to allow the Holy Spirit to use them for His glory."

They met on a blind date, in San Antonio in August 1968 and were married in September 1968. Their 53 years of marriage can only be described as God’s Amazing Grace. Lost and broken clay pots, rescued and redeemed by the nail scarred hands of The Potter. They have four sons and ten grandchildren.

When they met, they knew about God but were not walking with Him. In 1970 a neighbor couple, prompted by their daughter’s concern (the Schaupps are a neat couple but they need Jesus real bad), loved them into the Kingdom and an “on fire” relationship with Jesus. The road has been bumpy, but because of God’s Faithfulness, they walk each day desiring the Father to pour us out for the building of His Kingdom until He takes us home.
